Michael is an extremely gifted and talented musician who has been teaching music in inner city schools and with Acting Up Theatre School for over eight years. He graduated with an HND in Musical Theatre and then completed an Honours degree in Music. He then went on to study education at Masters level whilst teaching Music in a local secondary school. Michael’s main instruments are piano and voice, examined to grade 8 level with the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music.
For as long as he can remember, Michael has always had a deep passion for the Arts, in particular Musical Theatre. He was a member of both South Shields and Sunderland Amateur Operatic Societies. Theatre credits include: Oliver; Barnum; Tin Pan Alley; Scrooge the Musical; Fame and West Side Story to name a few. More recently, Michael has moved to the Production aspect and has musically directed many performances including: Back to the 80’s; Hairspray; Bugsy Malone; Blood Brothers and We Will Rock You.
Michael fundamentally believes that Music can reach learners of all abilities at all levels and is an indispensable part of education. The confidence that children can gain from taking part in musical expression can translate into greater self-esteem and achievement.
